I have found the cost of living to be about half or better than in Australia but this again varies on where you end up here .Its best to stay away from the Big Cities like Manila and Cebu but close enough for when you need to do your business and  any paper work. And boy do they believe in paper work.Out comes the carbon paper (yes thats right carbon paper )  and  manual type writer which is sitting next to the computer and printer.

There are thousands of little shops everywhere. Gererally their goods are cheap and if you find what you are looking for you can bargain them down even more .However you wont always find what you are looking for or what you might expect to find  in that shop. They can be very specialized so if you want convenience go to the large Shopping Centres like SHOE MART(No, they dont just sell shoes) or Walter Mart. They are just like the shopping centres you are accustom too. If you like you can browse the markets ,best time to go is about 6am and get everything you need from shoes, pots and pans, electrics to food and more food for a real bargain including your meat supplies. But i dont recommend beef, its just too tough.Chicken is fresh and so is the fish and when i say "fresh fish" I mean FRESH FISH. Most are in large plastic bowls or buckets filled with water splashing around (now thats fresh) and so are many other types of fresh water and seafoods. And if you wish for no extra cost they are cleaned and gutted. The Pork I find is very nice and seems to be quite low fat,I didnt eat pork cuts back in Australia because I didnt like the taste . They love their hot dogs (frankfurts) with bread which are cooked in a frypan or placed on a charcol grill with a stick in it them. .Dont worry if you get thirsty or a bit pecky when you are driving in your air con. car or you are a passenger in taxi, jeepney or bus and you dont want to get out. When you are stopped in traffic and at the lights vendors will come to you ( arms full ) selling all types of food ,drinks, shoes, clothing, house hold items and even car polishing cloths to clean off the dust when you get to where you are going.

traffic.jpg

Traffic can be very heavy at times due to drivers seldom obeying road rules and everyone seems to like directing the traffic, even at traffic lights.Tooting your horn lets everyone know;"Here I am king of the road, out my way" .So the bigger and louder the horn the better. Drivers pull accross in front of you without looking into a gap that isnt there thus blocking oncomming traffic, making there own lanes or turning in front of you cutting you off without indication. When you come to a cross road its more like a roundabout .If you are first there or behind the vehicle that is , just head on though ( if this worries you ,just close your eyes for a second or two, hahaha.).If you are from Perth (the worst drivers in Australia, and yes I am from Perth) this style of driving isnt a problem for you.
